The healthcare workforce in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region (SBPER) plays a vital role in our communities and is essential in serving the needs of our area’s growing population. As highlighted in our organization’s report “Examining our Aging Workforce”, the population dynamics in our region are rapidly changing, with over 25% of the Region’s population now aged 65 years or older.

With these changing dynamics, the gap between labour supply in the healthcare workforce and demand for healthcare services continues to widen – heightening pressures on an already strained sector that is struggling to attract and retain workers. At the centre of these shortages is a health human resources crisis where the healthcare workforce cannot keep pace with the growing demands resulting from a rapidly aging population. These challenges are reflected in local labour market data for our region that is examined further in this report.
