Self-contained labour areas (SLAs) are functional areas composed of census subdivisions (sometimes known as municipalities or townships) outside of CMAs and CAs, grouped according to commuting patterns derived from data on place of work from the Census Program. SLA data helps to improve the availability and accessibility of labour market data in rural areas such as ours and acknowledges the diversity of economic regions by providing more granular data at smaller geographies.

Three labour market indicators are collected at the SLA-level:

  • Unemployment rate
  • Employment rate
  • Employment

To find which self-contained labour area (SLA) your location falls under please refer to: Labour market indicators, census metropolitan areas, census agglomerations and self-contained labour areas: Interactive dashboard

Census agglomerations (CAs) is an area consisting of one or more neighboring municipalities situated around a major urban core.  A census agglomeration must have an urban core population of at least 10,000. Within our region, we house two census agglomerations:  The City of Owen Sound and The City of Stratford

Three labour market indicators are collected monthly at the CA level:  Unemployment rate, Employment rate and Employment (in numbers).
